When frumpy senior citizen Archie goes in search of his missing son in the Spanish Canary Islands, he stumbles upon a higher mission: locating a magical cure for his ailing 14-year-old granddaughter, Ella.
Using a portal-jumping device called the Tillastrion, Archie and a stone-headed creature named Zeno are transported to Jarr-Wya, a magnificent yet terrifying island in a connected realm—along with Ella and her strong-willed mother, Tessa, who accidentally stow away on this not-so-secret quest.
What they find on Jarr-Wya is an island tortured by a wicked Star anchored in the sea, and a raging three-way battle for dominion between the stone-wielding Bangols, the fiery Olearons, and the evil Millia sands. Ella’s wit and resourcefulness emerge in this new world, while Tessa is forced to confront her long-buried secrets and a confusing new love triangle. When Ella is captured, Tessa and Archie—with the help of a company of peculiar allies—set out to save her and unravel the terrible mystery of her cure.

In Confirm Humanity, Kim Mannix delivers a hauntingly honest collection of poems that explore the fragile balance between joy and sorrow, asking what it means to endure, observe, and feel deeply in a beautifully broken world.

Book Description:
The poems in Confirm Humanity are often juxtapositions between life’s joyful moments and the inevitably sorrowful.
With a background in journalism, Mannix’s perspective frequently comes from a place of observation; asking why people do the maddening things they do, and what, if anything, is the solution? The writing touches on the darkness of humanity, and the ways we—as citizens, women, mothers—learn to endure and persevere in light. There is awe for the natural world, but also cynicism and grief about how humans interact with the earth and one another.
Like the box on a website that asks you to click to confirm you are human, these poems collectively ask their reader to consider the complexity of human emotion and action in this mysterious, maddening, and ultimately beautiful world.

Murals are an integral part of our history as a society. Many of them highlight important moments and diverse styles of thought. Stony Plain, a Canadian town, is famous for its collection of murals. They represent its identity and attract tourists worldwide.
Memorable Murals shows us these wonderful works of art and offers us clear interpretations. Alexis Marie Chute begins by explaining the meaning of murals as an art form and the process of creating them. She then delves into Stony Plain’s past by showing us photographs arranged according to the historical period depicted in the mural. The painting is described through a narrative that connects it to the town’s history. The book also includes a section with brief biographies of the muralists, giving a deeper context for the creation of each work.
I loved Memorable Murals because it captures the essence and history of Stony Plain through artistic expression. Alexis Marie Chute narrates entertaining stories and shares the fascinating culture of the place, from the choice of the town’s name to the present day. The quality of her research is amazing. She addresses a variety of topics with clear and simple language.
My favorite parts are when she describes how the postal system and the first newspaper worked, but all the milestones this town has gone through are interesting. The photographs are impressive; they show how the murals bring people together and beautify the area. You can feel the love of the community for these works of art. Each mural has unique aesthetics and subject matter that invites us to reflect on timeless values and the beauty of everyday life.
Memorable Murals Book Review by Writer’s Digest
The photographs, especially those of the murals, are printed with great clarity and vivid color. Your writing is clear and engaging: you concisely convey a wealth of information about the making of these murals, the significance of their public nature, and the history and culture portrayed within them. Your book will have great appeal to art lovers and readers of local and Canadian history/culture, and to a more general readership as well. I enjoyed your unexpected approach to structuring the book, which works quite well and creates a narrative that I am sure is different than if you had arranged the book chronologically by creation. The various murals evoke a variety of tones, from the innocent charm of “Making a Friend” to the somber yet hopeful reverence of “Bridging the Gap for Peace.” It is a treat to see the photographs of the murals in progress with their artists. The mystery of “No Problem Autocare & Towing” is intriguing: I would love for to solve this!

Rubery Book Award Review
Moments in Focus by Alexis Marie Chute
This is a beautifully produced book of photographs from Edmonton, Canada, reflecting a decade of exhibitions that were set up to give local photographers a space for their work. In her introduction, Chute explains how and why she decided to set up the exhibition, and how in 2017, she realized that with all the technological advances it was no longer enough for photographers to produce excellent imagery, but that there should be meaning, methodology and story ingrained in their work.
The result is a fascinating collection of pictures, interspersed with interviews with some of the photographers. The photographs are many and varied: a torn bag snagged on a fence; a glimpse of sky between crowded flats, wide and wonderful Canadian landscapes; an abandoned kitchen; a pathway through a forest; a jumble of tents with skyscrapers behind; a deserted building falling back into the land; lots of patterns from nature and from everyday life, always there, but not always noticed; and, of course, people in all their rich diversity.
There is so much here to delight in, a tapestry that reflects all the complexity and wonders of life.

InFocus Photo Exhibit offers amazing exhibitions involving a collection of photos with various genres and themes by photographers from different parts of the world. To mark InFocus’ tenth anniversary, Alexis Marie Chute presents a compilation of images from each exhibition over the past 10 years, along with interviews of the photographers who contributed.
Moments in Focus comprises pictures from various photographers, the themes they focus on, and the messages they aim to convey with their pictures. The book also gives us a summary of InFocus Photo’s growth over the past decade. Additionally, the interviewees answer a broad range of questions, some of which aim to determine where they draw inspiration from and how photographers benefit from platforms like InFocus.
From black and white to color, photographs that depict the beauty of nature, and wholesome pictures of people, the collection offers an experience worth remembering and returning to again. The talented photographers in this book are not only gifted with taking great pictures but also skilled in telling amazing stories and putting their thoughts into compelling words.
Vanessa Tignanelli, who shares about using the camera as a tool to heal, has a very interesting relationship with photography.
The book might feel like an immersive magazine since its large-format pictures fill up a good portion of the pages. The texts, which usually occupy smaller portions, are both straightforward and very informative. All in all, Moments in Focus by Alexis Marie Chute is a brilliant collection of awe-inspiring images and bookmark-worthy words. It’s a brilliant addition to the photography industry. Spark your photography passion with this gem!

The printing and hard cover binding are exceptional and the front cover image is visually arresting. Your passion for this art form and your exhibit’s ten years of success are evident throughout. This is a stunning record of your decade of success and of the variety and quality of the art you have championed. The photographs you include range from provocative to lyrical to whimsical, and are always unique and impactful. Some of my favorites include “Windfall,” “Grab Death by the Horns,” “Voices of Change,” and “Be Careful What You Wish For.” The interviews with photographers offer insightful glimpses into their processes and aesthetics.

Book Description:
“Eight years ago, at midnight as the moon shone a smile of disgrace
I boldly slipped away from my old home place”
– Will Ingram; A Few Sketches of My Life
In the spring of 1906, under cover of darkness, lovestruck sixteen-year-old Will Ingram crept from his Missouri farm after a violent confrontation with his father. So began an epic, eight-year journey of mishap and misadventure as young Will “rode the rails,” working his way across the American Midwest. Bronc busting, trick riding, and roping with Buffalo Bill at Oklahoma’s 101 Ranch and Wild West show, running a locomotive engine off the track in Kansas, and drinking, gambling, and gold-panning up at Cripple Creek, Colorado, before eventually settling on an Alberta homestead. His children knew little about their father’s past, and almost nothing of those eight lost years. What was it that drove him away, never to see his family again?
Luckily, in 1914, he wrote it all down. Learning to Read the Air is a granddaughter’s tribute to a grandfather rediscovered through poetry. Brenda Gunn reads between the lines to reimagine the extraordinary tale of a seemingly ordinary man, inspired by a poem he wrote and found the courage to share.

Book Description:
Alycia Two Bears invites you to The Feast.
Love, life, motherhood, death, and grief—Alycia Two Bears sinks her teeth into the uncomfortable, exploring Indigenous identities and their intersections with womanhood in this urgent poetry collection.
A Two-Spirit, mixed-blood iskwew from Mistawasis Nêhiyawak First Nation, Two Bears weaves traditional teachings into her poetry, using her words as both reflection and resistance—challenging patriarchy and the inequities that thrive in its shadow.
As a mother, land-based yoga practitioner, activist, and aspiring midwife, Two Bears writes with a voice that demands to be heard. An award-winning poet, writer, and community leader, she beckons you to her table.
With verse as sweet as honey and as sharp as vinegar, The Feast will unsettle, provoke, and linger—its poems finding a permanent home deep within your bones.
